Your first holiday with your partner is an exciting one. From picking the destination, the activities you are going to do, the hotel you will stay in, and the restaurants you dine at, everything is important so you want to be as prepared as possible – then once booked, the countdown begins!

There will be many things you want to consider when travelling with your partner for the first time. Are you going to share a suitcase together? Are you going to agree on a budget between you? Will you book the holiday last minute or well in advance? And so on. To help you with your trip, we have put together our guide on tips for travelling with your partner for the first time.

Are you going to share a suitcase together?

In the last year, the price of luggage has gone up with a lot of airlines also reducing how much you can bring – forcing you to pay for extra luggage. What this means is a lot of couples going away together will opt to share a suitcase between them, instead of buying one by themselves. Of course, if you are travelling as a couple for the first time, this may not be ideal. However, If you do decide to share a suitcase, factor in any essential items that you may need to keep separate such as your insulin pump.

Agree on the budget you would like to spend

As a new couple, you may have a different budget in mind when it comes to your holidays. Try to talk about your budget before you sit down and investigate where you would like to stay. This way you can avoid any awkwardness if one of you can’t afford to spend as much as the other. Remember, when looking at city breaks, such as London, you can reduce the cost by staying further out of the city. For example, instead of booking a hotel near the London Eye, opt to stay somewhere further out, such as in Finsbury or Battersea. Whenever booking any hotel, we would always advise you to look into the reviews of the place, this way you can get the opinion of previous guests before booking.

Will you book your holiday last minute or in advance?

There are many pros and cons to both booking a holiday last minute and in advance. Booking in advance means you can guarantee you will get the best room available and not miss out. Booking a last-minute breakaway is often cheaper and gives you longer to save for your holiday. Some people don’t like booking at the last minute as it stresses them out as they do not know where they are going until the last minute. If your partner feels this way but you enjoy booking last minute, you may need to find a compromise so that both of you can enjoy looking forward to the holiday.
