For many people, a holiday abroad feels like a luxury. But it’s also a fantastic opportunity, especially if you have children.
It’s important that children get to experience different cultures, different languages, different food, and everything else that you’d find in a different country. This is all part of their education as they’re growing up.
However, we return to the unfortunate fact of money.
Children are not cheap, by any means. Life is more expensive now than it ever was before, and you might be struggling to comfortably afford the basics, let alone a trip to another country. So, how can you save money when traveling to Europe or elsewhere?

There’s no hard and fast rule saying where you can travel, but Europe is often a great option.
If you’re traveling from the UK, Europe is one of the more convenient places to travel to. It’s a continent full of different cultures, so you have a wide variety of experiences to choose from.
You can also travel to relatively inexpensive, but still safe places in Europe. Depending on where you go, you’ll likely find a lot of people who speak English, so it can be easier to navigate with only a basic knowledge of another language.
Cheap Flights
Booking the flights will probably be one of the later things you arrange when you’re planning a holiday, but you should ideally start looking at least a few months in advance. Often, flights get more expensive the longer you leave it.
You can find a variety of cheap flights online, often depending on which airport you leave from and which airline you choose.
Make sure to factor in the cost of traveling to the airport. If you have to travel for a long time and end up staying in a hotel before your flight, you might find that these costs all add up. Even a cheap flight can become expensive, not to mention stressful.
Be Prepared

While it’s tricky with children, try to travel as lightly as possible while getting everything you need. This will prevent you from incurring charges due to overweight bags. Weigh and measure your suitcases before you leave.

Finding Things to Do and Places to Stay
As usual, the key to saving money is to do your research. For example, always check out the activities available ahead of time so you can plan accordingly. Look up things to do in Marseille, for example, before you get there so you can research prices and good areas to book accommodation in.
Find places to stay that are convenient and pleasant, but don’t be afraid to make a couple of sacrifices to save money.
Another option is to roll the activities in with the accommodation. For example, Belgium Centre Parcs is inexpensive, a whole lot of fun, and gives you a taste of familiarity while still immersing you in another culture.
The key when traveling to Europe is to always do a lot of online research first so you know exactly what to expect before and when you get there.
